What do you really want?
What do you want to start, stop, or change?
And can you picture it clearly enough to get there?
The more vividly you can envision a change or goal, the more likely you are to reach it. Without clarity, you’re navigating in the fog (and having done this in my kayak, I can tell you—you may not end up where you mean to go!).
A few questions to guide your path:
What would it look like and feel like if you got what you want?
What can you do? (Hint: you can’t control other people’s thoughts or actions, no matter how much you wish you could…)
How will you know you’ve gotten there?
Practice: Start Small
Change feels big.
So—what’s the very first, easiest thing you could do to move towards what you want?
Be specific.
“I don’t want to be working this hard” is fuzzy.
“I want to leave the office before 6 pm” or “I don’t want to think about work on weekends” gives you a clear direction.
The first step doesn’t have to be hard.
In fact, it shouldn’t be.
Maybe it’s “I will leave the office before 6 pm one day this week”
If it doesn’t feel easy, make it smaller.
Then take it.
And whatever your first step is—asking for help, leaving the office earlier, trying a new habit—give yourself a little celebration when you do it!
