Go Gently

Embrace the power of gentleness. Move slowly, or not at all.  Give yourself kind words and patience.  Let wisdom grow inside of you.

Gentleness means honoring where you are right now.  It’s acknowledging your feelings, honoring your pace, accepting what is and caring for the body, mind and spirit that you need to keep moving.  Notice how gently the spring flowers come in, despite the storms.  You can’t grow flowers -or motivation - by pulling on them.

And if something is weighing on you, try the practice below to ease the burden.

Practice: Put It Down

What’s feeling HEAVY right now?

Imagine whatever’s weighing on you—a huge task, a conflict, a feeling of despair—is in a backpack. Take it off. Set it down. (Really. It’s not going anywhere.) Step away. Roll your shoulders. Stretch. Look up at the sky.

Next, let’s see what’s inside and decide what to do with it:

  • Lighten the load: Is everything in there truly important? Is it even all yours to carry? What can you leave behind?

  • Share the load: Who can help you carry some of it?

  • Choose an essential: What’s the one thing that will move you forward with purpose and ease?

Now, turn your back on the backpack and walk forward—carrying only what serves you, with a new focus or the hand of a friend.

Has something here resonated with you? As always, I’d love to hear from you. Drop a reply—I’d love to know.
